Nationwide (The Lake Tribune) A significant outage has impacted AT&T customers across the United States, with reports of disruptions to home phone, internet, and mobile phone services. According to Downdetector, the issue began to manifest before 3:30 a.m. ET, with outage reports peaking at over 74,000 by 9 a.m. ET. Although the number of reports has decreased, tens of thousands of customers continue to face service interruptions.

The majority of affected AT&T users, about 51%, are experiencing difficulties with mobile phone service, including complete signal loss reported by over a third of the customers. Additionally, 8% of users have reported issues with mobile internet connectivity.

In response to the widespread service disruption, AT&T has issued a statement acknowledging the outage and stating that their team is urgently working to restore service. The company recommends using Wi-Fi calling as a temporary solution until full service can be restored. However, the specific cause of the outage has not been disclosed.

Interestingly, the outage seems to have had a ripple effect, with Downdetector also recording a spike in outage reports for T-Mobile around 4 a.m. ET. Contrary to AT&T’s situation, a spokesperson for T-Mobile clarified that their network did not experience an outage and is operating as normal. The observed spike in reports may reflect difficulties T-Mobile customers experienced while trying to connect to AT&T users.

Verizon, another major carrier, reported that its network is operating without issues, but acknowledged some customers faced problems when attempting to communicate with individuals on other networks. Verizon is monitoring the situation closely to ensure network stability.

In a critical development, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in Florida informed the public that texts to 911 from AT&T users, which were previously affected by the outage, are now being received. This update is crucial for ensuring that individuals facing emergencies can still reach out for help if voice calls are not an option.

The outage has sparked frustration among users, with some calling for compensation and others expressing concern over the impact on their work and daily communications. The incident underscores the importance of network reliability and the challenges carriers face in maintaining uninterrupted service.
