MORGAN COUNTY, MO. (The Lake Tribune) — A Gravois Mills woman faces multiple felony charges, including first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action, after allegedly shooting her boyfriend. Christina Christian, 35, claimed self-defense in the incident that occurred early Thursday morning, according to court documents.

Christian, who has a prior felony conviction that prohibits her from possessing a firearm, was arrested and is currently being held without bond at the Morgan County Jail, as stated in a Morgan County Sheriff’s Office social media post. Despite the charges, her name was not listed on the jail’s online roster as of Thursday evening.

The altercation reportedly began when Christian and the victim argued, leading to her firing a gun in his direction ostensibly to scare him off the property. She told authorities she did not intend to hit him. The victim, who had threatened her with a metal pipe and struck her before she fired the weapon, was initially taken to Lake Regional Hospital and later transferred to University Hospital in Columbia for surgery.

Authorities found the metal pipe in a bedroom, supporting some elements of Christian’s account. The state has requested that her bond be denied, pending further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
