Missouri Senate to Consider Sports Betting Legislation in Upcoming Session

Senate President Pro Tem Caleb Rowden of Columbia acknowledged that attempts to legislate on sports betting fell through last year due to disagreements, notably over the issue of slot machines in gas stations.
As more states adopt laws allowing betting on electronic mobile devices, the push for sports gambling legislation in Missouri continues. Senate Minority Floor Leader John Rizzo of Independence pointed out that the debate, centered around Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs) and casinos, has been ongoing for years without significant change.
The 102nd General Assembly is set to commence at noon on Wednesday, January 3rd. With over 563 Senate bills and 35 Senate joint resolutions pre-filed for the 2024 session, committee hearings on these measures could begin as early as next week.
