MISSOURI (The Lake Tribune) Residents of Missouri and Illinois are advised to be vigilant this Thursday, especially during the afternoon hours, as both states brace for the possibility of strong storms and severe hail. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Storm Prediction Center issued an advisory highlighting the risk of severe weather across the Midwest, with a particular focus on Missouri and Illinois.

According to the latest forecast released on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, the majority of both states find themselves within the designated risk area for storm development. The NOAA’s detailed forecast indicates the potential for supercells capable of producing “all severe hazards,” including tornadoes, strong gusts, and very large hail.

The development and severity of these storms will largely depend on the behavior of the surface low early Thursday morning, as well as its progression throughout the day. While the advisory does not guarantee severe storms will occur, it signifies that the conditions are favorable for their development.

With high wind gusts also expected to accompany Thursday afternoon’s weather, residents are encouraged to stay informed by closely monitoring local weather forecasts and heeding any severe weather warnings that may be issued.

This preemptive alert serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness during severe weather conditions. By staying informed and ready to take action, individuals can significantly reduce the risks associated with such unpredictable weather events.
