As Camden County gears up for the 2024 Fiscal Year, the County Commission is actively finalizing its budget. The process, detailed by Presiding Commissioner Ike Skelton during his appearance on KRMS Radio and TV, is in an advanced stage with significant emphasis on infrastructure and law enforcement.

A substantial portion of the budget is dedicated to roads and bridges, indicating the county’s commitment to improving its infrastructure. Skelton mentioned the possibility of utilizing reserve funds, referred to as a “rollover,” to enhance these projects, ensuring the county’s infrastructure meets the community’s needs.

In addition to infrastructure, the sheriff’s office is set to receive a considerable allocation, reflecting the county’s focus on law enforcement and public safety. This allocation is part of a broader effort to ensure the county’s law enforcement is adequately funded and equipped to handle the community’s needs.

The 2024 budget is projected to be in the range of $30 to $40 million, an increase from the previous year’s budget by approximately $4 to $5 million. This increase underscores the county’s dedication to addressing critical areas like infrastructure and public safety, which are pivotal to the community’s well-being.

The budgeting process has been smooth, according to Skelton, indicating effective planning and collaboration within the commission. This collaborative approach is vital in ensuring that the budget adequately addresses the diverse needs of Camden County’s residents.
