Missouri Drought

Missouri (The Lake Tribune) — In response to prolonged dry conditions, Missouri Governor Mike Parson has extended the state’s drought alert to May 1, 2024, underlining the severity of the situation. This extension, announced via Executive Order 23-10 on November 17, follows the initial alert issued on May 31, 2023.

The extension of the drought alert enables state agencies to mobilize maximum resources and assistance to tackle the drought’s challenges. It’s a necessary step considering the extensive impact of the dry spell, as reported by the U.S. Drought Monitor. As of November 14, moderate to extreme drought conditions are affecting all or parts of at least 85 counties in Missouri, with Camden, Miller, and Morgan counties experiencing particularly severe drought.

The Lake of the Ozarks region has notably suffered from this dry year, emphasizing the need for continued vigilance and support from state agencies. Governor Parson’s decision reflects a commitment to addressing the ongoing environmental and agricultural challenges posed by these arid conditions.
